^1:1 耶和華的話臨到毗土珥的兒子約珥。 The word of the LORD that came to Joel son of Pethuel.
^1:2 老年人哪，當聽我的話；國中的居民哪，都要側耳而聽。在你們的日子，或你們列祖的日子，曾有這樣的事嗎？ Hear this, you elders; listen, all who live in the land. Has anything like this ever happened in your days or in the days of your forefathers?
^1:3 你們要將這事傳與子，子傳與孫，孫傳與後代。 Tell it to your children, and let your children tell it to their children, and their children to the next generation.
^1:4 剪蟲剩下的，蝗蟲來吃；蝗蟲剩下的，蝻子來吃；蝻子剩下的，螞蚱來吃。 What the locust swarm has left the great locusts have eaten; what the great locusts have left the young locusts have eaten; what the young locusts have left other locusts \f 1:4 The precise meaning of the four Hebrew words used here for locusts is uncertain.\F have eaten.
^1:5 酒醉的人哪，要清醒哭泣；好酒的人哪，都要為甜酒哀號，因為從你們的口中斷絕了。 Wake up, you drunkards, and weep! Wail, all you drinkers of wine; wail because of the new wine, for it has been snatched from your lips.
^1:6 有一隊蝗蟲〔原文是民〕又強盛又無數，侵犯我的地；牠的牙齒如獅子的牙齒，大牙如母獅的大牙。 A nation has invaded my land, powerful and without number; it has the teeth of a lion, the fangs of a lioness.
^1:7 牠毀壞我的葡萄樹，剝了我無花果樹的皮，剝盡而丟棄，使枝條露白。 It has laid waste my vines and ruined my fig trees. It has stripped off their bark and thrown it away, leaving their branches white.
^1:8 我的民哪，你當哀號，像處女腰束麻布，為幼年的丈夫哀號。 Mourn like a virgin \f 1:8 Or ((young woman))\F in sackcloth grieving for the husband \f 1:8 Or ((betrothed))\F of her youth.
^1:9 素祭和奠祭從耶和華的殿中斷絕；事奉耶和華的祭司都悲哀。 Grain offerings and drink offerings are cut off from the house of the LORD. The priests are in mourning, those who minister before the LORD.
^1:10 田荒涼，地悲哀；因為五穀毀壞，新酒乾竭，油也缺乏。 The fields are ruined, the ground is dried up; \f 1:10 Or ((ground mourns))\F the grain is destroyed, the new wine is dried up, the oil fails.
^1:11 農夫啊，你們要慚愧；修理葡萄園的啊，你們要哀號；因為大麥小麥與田間的莊稼都滅絕了。 Despair, you farmers, wail, you vine growers; grieve for the wheat and the barley, because the harvest of the field is destroyed.
^1:12 葡萄樹枯乾；無花果樹衰殘。石榴樹、棕樹、蘋果樹，連田野一切的樹木也都枯乾；眾人的喜樂盡都消滅。 The vine is dried up and the fig tree is withered; the pomegranate, the palm and the apple tree-- all the trees of the field--are dried up. Surely the joy of mankind is withered away.
^1:13 祭司啊，你們當腰束麻布痛哭；伺候祭壇的啊，你們要哀號；事奉我　神的啊，你們要來披上麻布過夜，因為素祭和奠祭從你們　神的殿中斷絕了。 Put on sackcloth, O priests, and mourn; wail, you who minister before the altar. Come, spend the night in sackcloth, you who minister before my God; for the grain offerings and drink offerings are withheld from the house of your God.
^1:14 你們要分定禁食的日子，宣告嚴肅會，招聚長老和國中的一切居民到耶和華─你們　神的殿，向耶和華哀求。 Declare a holy fast; call a sacred assembly. Summon the elders and all who live in the land to the house of the LORD your God, and cry out to the LORD.
^1:15 哀哉！耶和華的日子臨近了。這日來到，好像毀滅從全能者來到。 Alas for that day! For the day of the LORD is near; it will come like destruction from the Almighty. \f 1:15 Hebrew ((Shaddai))\F
^1:16 糧食不是在我們眼前斷絕了嗎？歡喜快樂不是從我們　神的殿中止息了嗎？ Has not the food been cut off before our very eyes-- joy and gladness from the house of our God?
^1:17 穀種在土塊下朽爛；倉也荒涼，廩也破壞；因為五穀枯乾了。 The seeds are shriveled beneath the clods. \f 1:17 The meaning of the Hebrew for this word is uncertain.\F The storehouses are in ruins, the granaries have been broken down, for the grain has dried up.
^1:18 牲畜哀鳴；牛群混亂，因為無草；羊群也受了困苦。 How the cattle moan! The herds mill about because they have no pasture; even the flocks of sheep are suffering.
^1:19 耶和華啊，我向你求告，因為火燒滅曠野的草場；火焰燒盡田野的樹木。 To you, O LORD, I call, for fire has devoured the open pastures and flames have burned up all the trees of the field.
^1:20 田野的走獸向你發喘；因為溪水乾涸，火也燒滅曠野的草場。 Even the wild animals pant for you; the streams of water have dried up and fire has devoured the open pastures.

■ 中文荒漠甘泉（09月18日）

九月十八日「沒有異象，民就放肆。」箴言廿九章18節要看見神，必須花功夫等候。時間在這裡是一個主要的元素。我們必須在神的腳前靜候多時，神纔會把祂自己顯示在我們心裡。一個波動的湖面是映不出甚麼東西來的。所以，如果我們要看見神，我們必須先安息在神面前，把我們生活中的風波平靜下來。看見神是最有能力，最能影響我們生活的一回事。看見神常會叫人類的生活得到極大的轉變。雅各在雅博渡口看見了神，就成了以色列。基甸看見了神，懦夫變成了勇士！多馬看見了主，疑惑變成了忠實！開雷（William Carey）看見了神，捨棄了鞋匠的生活到印度去。李文斯東（ David Livingstone）看見了神，捨棄了一切跟隨主，經歷非洲的叢林。多少人都是因為看見了神，所以今天在地極宣傳福音，使人歸向基督。　　　　　　　　　　─巴亭登靈裡全然安靜是一件非常不容易的事情。其實神一直在和我們講話。甚麼時候世界的聲音在靈裡消滅或低沉了，甚麼時候我們就能聽見神的聲音。我們聽不見，是因為我們生活中充滿了喧鬧、急躁和愁悶的緣故。　　　　　　　　　　─費勃爾

■ 英文荒漠甘泉（09月18日）

September 18 "Where there is no vision, the people perish." (Prov. 29:18.) 　ＷAITING upon God is necessary in order to see Him, to have a vision of Him. The time element in vision is essential. Our hearts are like a sensitive photographer's plate; and in order to have God revealed there, we must sit at His feet a long time. The troubled surface of a lake will not reflect an object. 　Our lives must be quiet and restful if we would see God. There is power in the sight of some things to affect one's life. A quiet sunset will bring peace to a troubled heart. Thus the vision of God always transforms human life. 　Jacob saw God at Jabbok's ford, and became Israel. The vision of God transformed Gideon from a coward into a valiant soldier. The vision of Christ changed Thomas from a doubting follower into a loyal, devout disciple. 　But men have had visions of God since Bible times. William Carey saw God, and left his shoemaker's bench and went to India. David Livingstone saw God, and left all to follow Him through the jungles of dark Africa. Scores and hundreds have had visions of God, and are today in the uttermost parts of the earth working for the speedy evangelization of the heathen. 　　　　　　　　　　─Dr. Pardington. 　There is hardly ever a complete silence in the soul. God is whispering to us well-nigh incessantly. Whenever the sounds of the world die out in the soul, or sink low, then we hear the whisperings of God. ■ 永活之泉（09月18日）

九月十八日　代禱的能力「我們要專心以傳道祈禱為事。」使徒行傳六章4節「彼得被囚在監裏，教會卻為他切切禱告神。」使徒行傳十二章5節摩特博士(Dr. Mott)勸我們相信同心代禱的能力。當他在亞洲旅行時，曾被人指控，此時遇到難處的人心，最需要全體宣教師同心合意代禱，「我們除了真正的同心禱告，此外沒有更好的方法，所有信徒迫切祈求神的靈以大能運行，遠較任何事奉更重要且有活力。我們所能報答宣教師的就是超人禱告的力量，透過合一而神聖的事奉，舉手作真實的禱告，並幫助傳道人。在復活基督的運行有新而奇妙的安排。我們所做的對於我們屬靈的生命和能力有著無法衡量的重要性，基督徒世界不僅能期望宣教領袖以正直為治事的態度，而且有超人的資源和更大光芒的屬靈能力被大大發現。」在我們介紹的話中，是否有那裏更需要基督教國家如生力軍，迫切為眾宣教師代禱？他們宣告需要神的靈同在於他們生命和工作上，每天渴望體驗基督內住所有的能力；他們需要、且有權利取得這種應許——除了小部份外，都可從本章讀到。我們是否成為這批宣教師大軍的一部份，使神持久的能力能有效的使用；我們能不像早期使徒宣告「專為傳道祈禱為事」直到神成全此事。當我們繼續禱告時，「常與你同在」的能力就會在我們生活上印證出來。

九月十八日　祂的試探與我們的試探「因我們的大祭司，並非不能體恤我們的軟弱；祂也曾凡事受過試探，與我們一樣，只是祂沒有犯罪。」希伯來書四章15節我們沒有重生以先，我們只能理會聖雅各所說的試探，──「各人被試探，乃是被自己的私慾牽引誘惑的。」若是重生了，達到另外一種場合，在那裡會遇著別的試探，類似我們的主所遇著的試探。耶穌的試探，是我們所不能領略的，因為在我們的天性裡沒有根據。不到我們重生，成為祂的弟兄，我們的試探範圍弗能與祂的相同。耶穌的試探不是人的試探，卻是如人之神的試探。因重生，神兒子形成在我們裡面，我們肉體上所受的試探是與祂在世上所受的一樣。撒但不試探我們做壞事，牠試探我們，使我們喪失神因重生而賜與我們的，神所看為有價值的可能性。牠不從試探的路線叫我們犯罪，卻從別的路線改變我們的觀點。魔鬼的這種試探，只有神的靈能看破。試探乃是我們的人格與外力相遇所生的一種試驗。基督所受的試探也是這樣。耶穌受洗以後，接受擔當世界罪孽的責任，祂立刻就被神的靈交給惡魔試探。但祂不疲憊，經過試探也「沒有犯罪」，依然保持祂完整無缺的人格。

■ 中文上海嗎哪（09月18日）

九月十八日「因我們行事為人，是憑著信心，不是憑著眼見。」哥林多後書五章7節雖然有些事極為困難，但是屬天的讚美卻有能力擊倒堅硬的牆壁，解決最不可能的事。例如保羅與西拉的歌聲，使得腓立比監獄眾囚犯的鎖鍊都鬆開了；約沙法的詩班使得亞捫人的軍隊落荒而逃(代下二十20—23)。可見信心的詩歌能驅散我們的仇敵，使我們沈重的心得到力量及勝利。你此刻是否正面臨生命中最黑暗的階段？你的日子是否像冬天那樣死寂、陰霾？請記得，這正是神選擇教導你信心功課的時候。在這表面看來難堪的情況之下，祂為你預備了珍貴，且未曾透露或未曾想到過的果實。雖然祂不一定即刻回答我們，但是當春天綠色的斗篷罩在死寂的土壤上時，我們會為自己在受試驗中，沒有令天父失望而感到高興；更會為能憑著信心行事，看見未來的成果而感到欣慰。主啊！當我們的眼光無法看遠時，願您藉著我們所經歷過的考驗，學習更加地倚靠您。
