^1:1 提阿非羅大人哪，有好些人提筆作書，述說在我們中間所成就的事，是照傳道人從起初親眼看見又傳給我們的。 Many have undertaken to draw up an account of the things that have been fulfilled (\f1 1:1 Or|i been surely believed|d) among us,

^1:3 這些事我既從起頭都詳細考察了，就定意要按著次序寫給你， Therefore, since I myself have carefully investigated everything from the beginning, it seemed good also to me to write an orderly account for you, most excellent Theophilus,
^1:4 使你知道所學之道都是確實的。 so that you may know the certainty of the things you have been taught.
^1:5 當猶太王希律的時候，亞比雅班裏有一個祭司，名叫撒迦利亞；他妻子是亞倫的後人，名叫伊利莎白。 In the time of Herod king of Judea there was a priest named Zechariah, who belonged to the priestly division of Abijah; his wife Elizabeth was also a descendant of Aaron.
^1:6 他們二人在　神面前都是義人，遵行主的一切誡命禮儀，沒有可指摘的， Both of them were upright in the sight of God, observing all the Lord's commandments and regulations blamelessly.
^1:7 只是沒有孩子；因為伊利莎白不生育，兩個人又年紀老邁了。 But they had no children, because Elizabeth was barren; and they were both well along in years.
^1:8 撒迦利亞按班次在　神面前供祭司的職分， Once when Zechariah's division was on duty and he was serving as priest before God,
^1:9 照祭司的規矩掣籤，得進主殿燒香。 he was chosen by lot, according to the custom of the priesthood, to go into the temple of the Lord and burn incense.
^1:10 燒香的時候，眾百姓在外面禱告。 And when the time for the burning of incense came, all the assembled worshipers were praying outside.
^1:11 有主的使者站在香壇的右邊，向他顯現。 Then an angel of the Lord appeared to him, standing at the right side of the altar of incense.
^1:12 撒迦利亞看見，就驚慌害怕。 When Zechariah saw him, he was startled and was gripped with fear.
^1:13 天使對他說：「撒迦利亞，不要害怕，因為你的祈禱已經被聽見了。你的妻子以利沙伯要給你生一個兒子，你要給他起名叫約翰。 But the angel said to him: <<Do not be afraid, Zechariah; your prayer has been heard. Your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son, and you are to give him the name John.
^1:14 你必歡喜快樂；有許多人因他出世，也必喜樂。 He will be a joy and delight to you, and many will rejoice because of his birth,
^1:15 他在主面前將要為大，淡酒濃酒都不喝，從母腹裏就被聖靈充滿了。 for he will be great in the sight of the Lord. He is never to take wine or other fermented drink, and he will be filled with the Holy Spirit even from birth. (\f2 1:15 Or|i from his mother's womb|d)
^1:16 他要使許多以色列人回轉，歸於主─他們的　神。 Many of the people of Israel will he bring back to the Lord their God.
^1:17 他必有以利亞的心志能力，行在主的前面，叫為父的心轉向兒女，叫悖逆的人轉從義人的智慧，又為主預備合用的百姓。」 And he will go on before the Lord, in the spirit and power of Elijah, to turn the hearts of the fathers to their children and the disobedient to the wisdom of the righteous--to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.>>
^1:18 撒迦利亞對天使說：「我憑著甚麼可知道這事呢？我已經老了，我的妻子也年紀老邁了。」 Zechariah asked the angel, <<How can I be sure of this? I am an old man and my wife is well along in years.>>
^1:19 天使回答說：「我是站在　神面前的加百列，奉差而來對你說話，將這好信息報給你。 The angel answered, <<I am Gabriel. I stand in the presence of God, and I have been sent to speak to you and to tell you this good news.
^1:20 到了時候，這話必然應驗；只因你不信，你必啞巴，不能說話，直到這事成就的日子。」 And now you will be silent and not able to speak until the day this happens, because you did not believe my words, which will come true at their proper time.>>
^1:21 百姓等候撒迦利亞，詫異他許久在殿裏。 Meanwhile, the people were waiting for Zechariah and wondering why he stayed so long in the temple.
^1:22 及至他出來，不能和他們說話，他們就知道他在殿裏見了異象；因為他直向他們打手式，竟成了啞巴。 When he came out, he could not speak to them. They realized he had seen a vision in the temple, for he kept making signs to them but remained unable to speak.
^1:23 他供職的日子已滿，就回家去了。 When his time of service was completed, he returned home.
^1:24 這些日子以後，他的妻子伊利莎白懷了孕，就隱藏了五個月， After this his wife Elizabeth became pregnant and for five months remained in seclusion.
^1:25 說：「主在眷顧我的日子，這樣看待我，要把我在人間的羞恥除掉。」 <<The Lord has done this for me,>> she said. <<In these days he has shown his favor and taken away my disgrace among the people.>>
^1:26 到了第六個月，天使加百列奉　神的差遣往加利利的一座城去（這城名叫拿撒勒）， In the sixth month, God sent the angel Gabriel to Nazareth, a town in Galilee,
^1:27 到一個童女那裏，是已經許配大衛家的一個人，名叫約瑟。童女的名字叫馬利亞； to a virgin pledged to be married to a man named Joseph, a descendant of David. The virgin's name was Mary.
^1:28 天使進去，對她說：「蒙大恩的女子，我問你安，主和你同在了！」 The angel went to her and said, <<Greetings, you who are highly favored! The Lord is with you.>>
^1:29 馬利亞因這話就很驚慌，又反復思想這樣問安是甚麼意思。 Mary was greatly troubled at his words and wondered what kind of greeting this might be.
^1:30 天使對她說：「馬利亞，不要怕！你在　神面前已經蒙恩了。 But the angel said to her, <<Do not be afraid, Mary, you have found favor with God.
^1:31 你要懷孕生子，可以給他起名叫耶穌。 You will be with child and give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus.
^1:32 他要為大，稱為至高者的兒子；主　神要把他祖大衛的位給他。 He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David,
^1:33 他要作雅各家的王，直到永遠；他的國也沒有窮盡。」 and he will reign over the house of Jacob forever; his kingdom will never end.>>
^1:34 馬利亞對天使說：「我沒有出嫁，怎麼有這事呢？」 <<How will this be,>> Mary asked the angel, <<since I am a virgin?>>
^1:35 天使回答說：「聖靈要臨到你身上，至高者的能力要蔭庇你，因此所要生的聖者必稱為　神的兒子〔或譯：所要生的，必稱為聖，稱為　神的兒子〕。 The angel answered, <<The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will be called (\f3 1:35 Or|i So the child to be born will be called holy|d) the Son of God.
^1:36 況且你的親戚伊利莎白，在年老的時候也懷了男胎，就是那素來稱為不生育的，現在有孕六個月了。 Even Elizabeth your relative is going to have a child in her old age, and she who was said to be barren is in her sixth month.
^1:37 因為，出於　神的話，沒有一句不帶能力的。」 For nothing is impossible with God.>>
^1:38 馬利亞說：「我是主的使女，情願照你的話成就在我身上。」天使就離開她去了。 <<I am the Lord's servant,>> Mary answered. <<May it be to me as you have said.>> Then the angel left her.
^1:39 那時候，馬利亞起身，急忙往山地裏去，來到猶大的一座城； At that time Mary got ready and hurried to a town in the hill country of Judea,
^1:40 進了撒迦利亞的家，問伊利莎白安。 where she entered Zechariah's home and greeted Elizabeth.
^1:41 伊利莎白一聽馬利亞問安，所懷的胎就在腹裏跳動。伊利莎白且被聖靈充滿， When Elizabeth heard Mary's greeting, the baby leaped in her womb, and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit.
^1:42 高聲喊著說：「你在婦女中是有福的！你所懷的胎也是有福的！ In a loud voice she exclaimed: <<Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the child you will bear!
^1:43 我主的母到我這裏來，這是從哪裏得的呢？ But why am I so favored, that the mother of my Lord should come to me?
^1:44 因為你問安的聲音一入我耳，我腹裏的胎就歡喜跳動。 As soon as the sound of your greeting reached my ears, the baby in my womb leaped for joy.
^1:45 這相信的女子是有福的！因為主對她所說的話都要應驗。」 Blessed is she who has believed that what the Lord has said to her will be accomplished!>>
^1:46 馬利亞說：我心尊主為大； And Mary said:<<My soul glorifies the Lord
^1:47 我靈以　神我的救主為樂； and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior,
^1:48 因為他顧念他使女的卑微；從今以後，萬代要稱我有福。 for he has been mindful of the humble state of his servant. From now on all generations will call me blessed,
^1:49 那有權能的，為我成就了大事；他的名為聖。 for the Mighty One has done great things for me-- holy is his name.
^1:50 他憐憫敬畏他的人，直到世世代代。 His mercy extends to those who fear him, from generation to generation.
^1:51 他用膀臂施展大能；那狂傲的人正心裏妄想就被他趕散了。 He has performed mighty deeds with his arm; he has scattered those who are proud in their inmost thoughts.
^1:52 他叫有權柄的失位，叫卑賤的升高； He has brought down rulers from their thrones but has lifted up the humble.
^1:53 叫飢餓的得飽美食，叫富足的空手回去。 He has filled the hungry with good things but has sent the rich away empty.
^1:54 他扶助了他的僕人以色列， He has helped his servant Israel, remembering to be merciful
^1:55 為要記念亞伯拉罕和他的後裔，施憐憫直到永遠，正如從前對我們列祖所說的話。 to Abraham and his descendants forever, even as he said to our fathers.>>
^1:56 馬利亞和伊利莎白同住，約有三個月，就回家去了。 Mary stayed with Elizabeth for about three months and then returned home.
^1:57 伊利莎白的產期到了，就生了一個兒子。 When it was time for Elizabeth to have her baby, she gave birth to a son.
^1:58 鄰里親族聽見主向她大施憐憫，就和她一同歡樂。 Her neighbors and relatives heard that the Lord had shown her great mercy, and they shared her joy.
^1:59 到了第八日，他們來要給孩子行割禮，並要照他父親的名字叫他撒迦利亞。 On the eighth day they came to circumcise the child, and they were going to name him after his father Zechariah,
^1:60 他母親說：「不可！要叫他約翰。」 but his mother spoke up and said, <<No! He is to be called John.>>
^1:61 他們說：「你親族中沒有叫這名字的。」 They said to her, <<There is no one among your relatives who has that name.>>
^1:62 他們就向他父親打手式，問他要叫這孩子甚麼名字。 Then they made signs to his father, to find out what he would like to name the child.
^1:63 他要了一塊寫字的板，就寫上，說：「他的名字是約翰。」他們便都希奇。 He asked for a writing tablet, and to everyone's astonishment he wrote, <<His name is John.>>
^1:64 撒迦利亞的口立時開了，舌頭也舒展了，就說出話來，稱頌　神。 Immediately his mouth was opened and his tongue was loosed, and he began to speak, praising God.
^1:65 周圍居住的人都懼怕；這一切的事就傳遍了猶太的山地。 The neighbors were all filled with awe, and throughout the hill country of Judea people were talking about all these things.
^1:66 凡聽見的人都將這事放在心裏，說：「這個孩子將來怎麼樣呢？」因為有主與他同在。 Everyone who heard this wondered about it, asking, <<What then is this child going to be?>> For the Lord's hand was with him.
^1:67 他父親撒迦利亞被聖靈充滿了，就預言說： His father Zechariah was filled with the Holy Spirit and prophesied:
^1:68 主─以色列的　神是應當稱頌的！因他眷顧他的百姓，為他們施行救贖， <<Praise be to the Lord, the God of Israel, because he has come and has redeemed his people.
^1:69 在他僕人大衛家中，為我們興起了拯救的角， He has raised up a horn (\f4 1:69 |iHorn|d here symbolizes strength.) of salvation for us in the house of his servant David
^1:70 正如主藉著從創世以來聖先知的口所說的話， (as he said through his holy prophets of long ago),
^1:71 拯救我們脫離仇敵和一切恨我們之人的手， salvation from our enemies and from the hand of all who hate us--
^1:72 向我們列祖施憐憫，記念他的聖約─ to show mercy to our fathers and to remember his holy covenant,
^1:73 就是他對我們祖宗亞伯拉罕所起的誓─ the oath he swore to our father Abraham:
^1:74 叫我們既從仇敵手中被救出來， to rescue us from the hand of our enemies, and to enable us to serve him without fear
^1:75 就可以終身在他面前，坦然無懼的用聖潔、公義事奉他。 in holiness and righteousness before him all our days.
^1:76 孩子啊！你要稱為至高者的先知；因為你要行在主的前面，預備他的道路， And you, my child, will be called a prophet of the Most High; for you will go on before the Lord to prepare the way for him,
^1:77 叫他的百姓因罪得赦，就知道救恩。 to give his people the knowledge of salvation through the forgiveness of their sins,
^1:78 因我們　神憐憫的心腸，叫清晨的日光從高天臨到我們， because of the tender mercy of our God, by which the rising sun will come to us from heaven
^1:79 要照亮坐在黑暗中死蔭裏的人，把我們的腳引到平安的路上。 to shine on those living in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the path of peace.>>
^1:80 那孩子漸漸長大，心靈強健，住在曠野，直到他顯明在以色列人面前的日子。 And the child grew and became strong in spirit; and he lived in the desert until he appeared publicly to Israel.

■ 中文荒漠甘泉（07月25日）

七月廿五日「我所作的，你如今不知道，後來必明白。」約翰福音十三章7節我們現在所看見的神的作為，只是局部的─—一個半完成、半發展的計劃；到永生的殿完成的時候，全部工程就要清清楚楚地顯露出來！讓我們上利巴嫩山頂去看看。在那裏有高大的香柏樹，它是同輩的光榮，狂風的對手！夏喜歡對著它微笑；夜喜歡用露珠鑲飾它的葉子；飛鳥喜歡巢居在它的枝幹上；疲倦的旅客、流浪的牧童都喜歡在它蔭下憩息，躲避日中的炎熱、狂暴的風雨；雖然這樣，有一天，它卻被砍倒了；多年在林中享有權利的香柏樹，竟死在樵夫手下！當斧子砍下去的時候，樹枝都從樹身上脫下來了，那株高大的香柏樹，嘩啦一聲，倒在地上了。那時候，我們禁不住和先知一般喊叫說：「松樹阿，應當哀號。因為香柏樹傾倒了！」（亞十一2）但是等一等！讓我們跟著希蘭的工人將那株大樹運下山來：從那裏沿著藍色的地中海漂去；看啊，這株香柏樹最後成了神殿中的棟樑─—一根榮耀光澤的棟樑。當你看見了它的結局——被安置在聖殿的至聖所裏，萬王之王的宮殿裏——你會不會再可惜利巴嫩的香柏樹被砍倒了呢？「這殿後來的榮耀，必大過先前的榮耀。」（該二9）多少時候，我們正像那香柏樹！神的斧子將我們剝削得一無所有。我們看不出有甚麼理由叫我們遇見這樣黑暗神祕的對付，但是神自有祂的目的在：神豫備永遠用我們來做天上的棟樑、屋椽；要叫我們「在耶和華的手中作為華冠，在神的掌上作為冕旒。」（賽六二3）　　　　　　　　　　─馬克特夫我不想把我的苦難問明，　也不想把路途看清，只要在黑暗中摸著祂的手，　跟隨祂向前進行。

■ 英文荒漠甘泉（07月25日）

July 25 "What I do thou knowest not now, but thou shalt know hereafter." (John 13:7.) 　ＷE have only a partial view here of God's dealings, His half-completed, half-developed plan; but all will stand out in fair and graceful proportions in the great finished Temple of Eternity! Go, in the reign of Israel's greated king, to the heights of Lebanon. See that noble cedar, the pride of its compeers, an old wrestler with northern blasts! Summer loves to smile upon it, night spangle its feathery foliage with dewdrops, the birds nestle on its branches, the weary pilgrim or wandering shepherd reposes under its shadows from the midday heat or from the furious storm; but all at once it is marked out to fall; The aged denizen of the forest is doomed to succumb to the woodman's stroke! 　As we see the axe making its first gash on its gnarled trunk, then the noble limbs stripped of their branches, and at last the "Tree of God," as was its distinctive epithet, coming with a crash to the ground, we exclaim against the wanton destruction, the demolition of this proud pillar in the temple of nature. We are tempted to cry with the prophet, as if inviting the sympathy of every lowlier stem-invoking inanimate things to resent the affront- "Howl, fir tree; for the cedar has fallen!" 　But wait a little. Follow that gigantic trunk as the workmen of Hiram launch it down the mountain side; thence conveyed in rafts along the blue waters of the Mediterranean; and last of all, behold it set a glorious polished beam in the Temple of God. As you see its destination, placed in the very Holy of Holies, in the diadem of the Great King-say, can you grudge that "the crown of Lebanon" was despoiled, in order that this jewel might have so noble a setting? 　That cedar stood as a stately prop in Nature's sanctuary, but "the glory of the latter house was greater than the glory of the former!" 　How many of our souls are like these cedars of old! God's axes of trial have stripped and bared them. We see no reason for dealings so dark and mysterious, but He has a noble end and object in view; to set them as everlasting pillars and rafters in His Heavenly Zion; to make them a "crown of glory in the hand of the Lord, and a royal diadem in the hand of our God." 　　　　　　　　　　─Macduff. "I do not ask my cross to understand. My way to see- Better in darkness just to feel Thy hand, And follow Thee."

■ 永活之泉（07月25日）

七月廿五日　三重方式「所以我告訴你們，凡你們禱告祈求的，無論是什麼，只要信是得著的，就必得著。」馬可福音十一章24節理智、感覺和意志是魂三重的主要行動，當基督徒完全瞭解在基督裏和祂所賜豐盛生命時，那三種行動就會指示分享完全的方法。理智——我們必須不滿足於我們自己的思想，在恩典中長進，這樣我們就會清楚知道神應許在我們裏面成就什麼，以及祂要求我們做什麼。聖經指示，如果我們誠實帶著自己的罪和無能來到基督我們的王面前，祂會在我們裏面成就我們未曾想到的工作，你也清楚明白神應許你可向祂祈求。渴望——當我們禱告時，要留意我們渴望得著什麼，以及能付上怎樣的代價。神常以渴望來回答我們的禱告，而其代價就是努力和自我犧牲，以及不受世界和肉體的引誘，讓聖靈來幫助我，但沒有強烈渴望和自我犧牲，就不會長進。意志——意志是最重要的一部份，只有藉著堅定不移的信去使用神的恩賜，常常在中途我們就害怕發抖，甚至失望，但要以堅定的意志去瞭解神所賜予的是什麼。要單單信靠神，基督耶穌就會給我確據。祂要加添我們力量去征服肉體，降服聖靈的引導，當我們的渴望發展到堅固的意志，我們就會深信神一切的應許。神的孩子：成千上萬的人利用這些方法經歷了完全在基督裏，起初他們並不相信，你若把自己更多擺在神的話語上，那基督的愛和能力會幫助你更快地進入信心的安息。停止你自己的努力！讓神在你裏面完成祂的計劃。

■ 中文屬天日子（07月25日）

七月廿五日　我有這樣的福麼？「有福了……」馬太福音五章3—10節當我們閱讀耶穌言論的時候，不但平淡無奇，並且毫不經意地沉入下意識裡面去了。例如，八福僅僅只有柔和的表露，是為那些無能為力的人說的，但與我們這生活在剛性工作的世界中的人，是很少有用處的。雖然如此，我們不久會感覺八福裡面含有聖靈的爆炸性。當我們生活的環境使它們要爆炸的時候，它們就爆炸起來。當聖靈使我們回憶到某一福的時候。我們就要說：「那是怎樣一種驚奇的言語啊！」到了這個時候，我們必得決定服從或不服從，若是服從，那麼，在靈性上必然產生大的改變。那就是神的靈工作的方式。按照字句來解釋，我們無須乎重生，就能應用山上寶訓，山上寶訓的字句的解釋是小孩的玩意兒；若是照著神的靈應用到我們的環境中，只有聖徒能做到。耶穌的教訓，是與我們平常觀察事物的方法殊不一樣，在開始時，你要感覺不快，當聖靈將耶穌基督的訓誨應用到我們的環境上來的時候，我們就要依從那些訓誨的方向，慢慢的適應在我們行為上和言語上。山上寶訓不是一組規條：是我們充滿聖靈之後，一種生活的說明。

七月廿五日「在這幾樣上服事基督的，就為神所喜悅，又為人所稱許。」羅馬書十四章18節惟有我們完全相信神時，祂才能用我們。撒但並不怎麼在乎彼得否認主的經驗，牠在意的乃是藉著這一次的行為，使彼得的信心完全瓦解。無怪乎耶穌曾對彼得說：「但我已經為你祈求，叫你不至於失了信心……。」(路廿二32)由此我們可以瞭解撒但攻擊彼得的是他的信心，牠向我們挑戰的也是我們的信心。彼得前書一章7節說：「叫你們的信心既被試驗，就比那被火試驗，仍然能壞的金子更顯寶貴。」願我們都能經得起試驗。無論我們失去任何東西，願我們穩穩地守住我們的信心。希伯來書的作者說：「……你們不可丟棄勇敢的心……。」(來十35)又勉勵我們：「……將可誇的盼望和膽量，堅持到底……。」(來三6)當然在我們守著我們信心的同時，也應該在多方面顯出我們的甜美、公義、及對基督的順服和得勝的信心。不管任何事臨到，願我們不顧後果，擁有戰勝的態度、保持堅守到底的決心。當事情發生時，願我們視每一種情況為神所允許，並且在敵人面前高舉勝利的旗幟前進。讓我們奉耶穌的名說：「感謝神，常帥領我們在基督裡誇勝……。」(林後二14)
