In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.
Now the earth was 1:2 Or possibly ((became)) formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters. And God said, <<Let there be light,>> and there was light. God saw that the light was good, and he separated the light from the darkness. God called the light <<day,>> and the darkness he called <<night.>> And there was evening, and there was morning--the first day. And God said, <<Let there be an expanse between the waters to separate water from water.>> 1:7 神就造出空氣,將空氣以下的水、空氣以上的水分開了。 So God made the expanse and separated the water under the expanse from the water above it. And it was so. 1:8 神稱空氣為天。 God called the expanse <<sky.>> And there was evening, and there was morning--the second day. And God said, <<Let the water under the sky be gathered to one place, and let dry ground appear.>> And it was so. 1:10 神稱旱地為地,稱水的聚處為海。 God called the dry ground <<land,>> and the gathered waters he called <<seas.>> And God saw that it was good. Then God said, <<Let the land produce vegetation: seed-bearing plants and trees on the land that bear fruit with seed in it, according to their various kinds.>> And it was so. 1:12 於是地發生了青草和結種子的菜蔬,各從其類;並結果子的樹木,各從其類;果子都包著核。 The land produced vegetation: plants bearing seed according to their kinds and trees bearing fruit with seed in it according to their kinds. And God saw that it was good. And there was evening, and there was morning--the third day. And God said, <<Let there be lights in the expanse of the sky to separate the day from the night, and let them serve as signs to mark seasons and days and years, 1:15 並要發光在天空,普照在地上。 and let them be lights in the expanse of the sky to give light on the earth.>> And it was so. 1:16 於是神造了兩個大光,大的管晝,小的管夜,又造眾星, God made two great lights--the greater light to govern the day and the lesser light to govern the night. He also made the stars. God set them in the expanse of the sky to give light on the earth, 1:18 管理晝夜,分別明暗。 to govern the day and the night, and to separate light from darkness. And God saw that it was good. And there was evening, and there was morning--the fourth day. And God said, <<Let the water teem with living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth across the expanse of the sky.>> 1:21 神就造出大魚和水中所滋生各樣有生命的動物,各從其類;又造出各樣飛鳥,各從其類。 So God created the great creatures of the sea and every living and moving thing with which the water teems, according to their kinds, and every winged bird according to its kind. And God saw that it was good. God blessed them and said, <<Be fruitful and increase in number and fill the water in the seas, and let the birds increase on the earth.>> 1:23 有晚上,有早晨,是第五日。 And there was evening, and there was morning--the fifth day. And God said, <<Let the land produce living creatures according to their kinds: livestock, creatures that move along the ground, and wild animals, each according to its kind.>> And it was so. 1:25 於是神造出野獸,各從其類;牲畜,各從其類;地上一切昆蟲,各從其類。 God made the wild animals according to their kinds, the livestock according to their kinds, and all the creatures that move along the ground according to their kinds. And God saw that it was good. Then God said, <<Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, 1:26 Hebrew; Syriac ((all the wild animals)) and over all the creatures that move along the ground.>> 1:27 神就照著自己的形像造人,乃是照著他的形像造男造女。 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them. God blessed them and said to them, <<Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air and over every living creature that moves on the ground.>> 1:29 神說:看那,我將遍地上一切結種子的菜蔬和一切樹上所結有核的果子全賜給你們作食物。 Then God said, <<I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for food. And to all the beasts of the earth and all the birds of the air and all the creatures that move on the ground--everything that has the breath of life in it--I give every green plant for food.>> And it was so. 1:31 神看著一切所造的都甚好。 God saw all that he had made, and it was very good.

January 17 "O Daniel, servant of the living God, is thy God whom thou servest continually, able to deliver thee." (Dan. 6:20.) HOW many times we find this expression in the Scriptures, and yet it is just this very thing that we are so prone to lose sight of. We know it is written "the living God"; but in our daily life there is scarcely anything we practically so much lose sight of as the fact that God is the living God; that He is now whatever He was three or four thousand years since; that He has the same sovereign power, the same saving love towards those who love and serve Him as ever He had and that He will do for them now what He did for others two, three, four thousand years ago, simply because He is the living God, the unchanging One. Oh, how therefore we should confide in Him, and in our darkest moments never lose sight of the fact that He is still and ever will be the living God! Be assured, if you walk with Him and look to Him and expect help from Him, He will never fail you. An older brother who has known the Lord for forty-four years, who writes this, says to you for your encouragement that He has never failed him. In the greatest difficulties, in the heaviest trials, in the deepest poverty and necessities, He has never failed me; but because I was enabled by His grace to trust Him He has always appeared for my help. I delight in speaking well of His name. ─George Mueller. Luther was once found at a moment of peril and fear, when he had need to grasp unseen strength, sitting in an abstracted mood tracing on the table with his finger the words, "Vivit! vivit!"("He lives! He lives!"). It is our hope for ourselves, and for His truth, and for mankind. Men come and go; leaders, teachers, thinkers speak and work for a season, and then fall silent and impotent. He abides. They die, but He lives. They are lights kindles, and, therefore, sooner or laterquenched; but He is the true light from which they draw all their brightness, and He shines for evermore. ─Alexander Maclaren. "One day I came to know Dr. John Douglas Adam," writes C. G. Trumbull. "I learned from him that what he counted his greatest spiritual asset was his unvarying consciousness of the actual presence of Jesus. Nothing bore him up so, he said, as the realization that Jesus was always with him in actual presence; and that this was so independent of his own feelings, independent of his deserts, and independent of his own notions as to how Jesus would manifest His presence. "Moreover, he said that Christ was the home of his thoughts. Whenever his mind was free from other matters it would turn to Christ; and he would talk aloud to Christ when he was alone─on the street, anywhere─as easily and naturally as to a human friend. So real to him was Jesus' actual presence.
