After Ahab's death, Moab rebelled against Israel.
Now Ahaziah had fallen through the lattice of his upper room in Samaria and injured himself. So he sent messengers, saying to them, <<Go and consult Baal-Zebub, the god of Ekron, to see if I will recover from this injury.>> 1:3 但耶和華的使者對提斯比人以利亞說:「你起來,去迎著撒馬利亞王的使者,對他們說:『你們去問以革倫神巴力西卜,豈因以色列中沒有 神嗎?』 But the angel of the LORD said to Elijah the Tishbite, <<Go up and meet the messengers of the king of Samaria and ask them, <Is it because there is no God in Israel that you are going off to consult Baal-Zebub, the god of Ekron?> 1:4 所以耶和華如此說:『你必不下你所上的,必定要死!』」 Therefore this is what the LORD says: <You will not leave the bed you are lying on. You will certainly die!> >> So Elijah went. When the messengers returned to the king, he asked them, <<Why have you come back?>> 1:6 使者回答說:「有一個人迎著我們來,對我們說:『你們回去見差你們來的王,對他說:耶和華如此說,你差人去問以革倫神巴力西卜,豈因以色列中沒有 神嗎? <<A man came to meet us,>> they replied. <<And he said to us, <Go back to the king who sent you and tell him, <<This is what the LORD says: Is it because there is no God in Israel that you are sending men to consult Baal-Zebub, the god of Ekron? Therefore you will not leave the bed you are lying on. The king asked them, <<What kind of man was it who came to meet you and told you this?>> 1:8 回答說:「他身穿毛衣,腰束皮帶。」 They replied, <<He was a man with a garment of hair and with a leather belt around his waist.>> The king said, <<That was Elijah the Tishbite.>> 1:9 於是,王差遣五十夫長,帶領五十人去見以利亞,他就上到以利亞那裏;以利亞正坐在山頂上。 Then he sent to Elijah a captain with his company of fifty men. The captain went up to Elijah, who was sitting on the top of a hill, and said to him, <<Man of God, the king says, <Come down!> >> 1:10 以利亞回答說:「我若是神人,願火從天上降下來,燒滅你和你那五十人!」 Elijah answered the captain, <<If I am a man of God, may fire come down from heaven and consume you and your fifty men!>> Then fire fell from heaven and consumed the captain and his men. At this the king sent to Elijah another captain with his fifty men. The captain said to him, <<Man of God, this is what the king says, <Come down at once!> >> 1:12 以利亞回答說:「我若是神人,願火從天上降下來,燒滅你和你那五十人!」 <<If I am a man of God,>> Elijah replied, <<may fire come down from heaven and consume you and your fifty men!>> Then the fire of God fell from heaven and consumed him and his fifty men. So the king sent a third captain with his fifty men. This third captain went up and fell on his knees before Elijah. <<Man of God,>> he begged, <<please have respect for my life and the lives of these fifty men, your servants! See, fire has fallen from heaven and consumed the first two captains and all their men. But now have respect for my life!>> 1:15 耶和華的使者對以利亞說:「你同著他下去,不要怕他!」 The angel of the LORD said to Elijah, <<Go down with him; do not be afraid of him.>> So Elijah got up and went down with him to the king. He told the king, <<This is what the LORD says: Is it because there is no God in Israel for you to consult that you have sent messengers to consult Baal-Zebub, the god of Ekron? Because you have done this, you will never leave the bed you are lying on. So he died, according to the word of the LORD that Elijah had spoken. Because Ahaziah had no son, Joram 1:17 Hebrew ((Jehoram,)) a variant of ((Joram)) succeeded him as king in the second year of Jehoram son of Jehoshaphat king of Judah. As for all the other events of Ahaziah's reign, and what he did, are they not written in the book of the annals of the kings of Israel?

April 9 "All these things are against me."(Gen. 42:36.) "All things work together for good to them that love God."(Rom. 8:28.) MANY people are wanting power. now how is power produced? The other day we passed the great works where the trolley engines are supplied with electricity. We heard the hum and roar of the countless wheels, and we asked our friend, "How do they make the power?" "Why," he said, "just by the revolution of those wheels and the friction they produce. The rubbing creates the electric current." And so, when God wants to bring more power into your life, He brings more pressure. He is generating spiritual force by hard rubbing. Some do not like it and try to run away from the pressure, instead of getting the power and using it to rise above the painful causes. Opposition is essential to a true equilibrium of forces. The centripetal and centrifugal forces acting in opposition to each other keep our planet in her orbit. The one propelling, and the other repelling, so act and re-act, that instead of sweeping off into space in a pathway of desolation, she pursues her even orbit around her solar centre. So God guides our lives. It is not enough to have an impelling force─we need just as much a repelling force, and so He holds us back by the testing ordeals of life, by the pressure of temptation and trial, by the things that seem against us, but really are furthering our way and establishing our goings. Let us thank Him for both, let us take the weights as well as the wings, and thus divinely impelled, let us press on with faith and patience in our high and heavenly calling. ─A. B. Simpson. In a factory building there are wheels and gearings, There are cranks and pulleys, beltings tight or slack─ Some are whirling swiftly, some are turning slowly, Some are thrusting forward, some are pulling back; Some are smooth and silent, some are rough and noisy, Pounding, rattling, clanking, moving with a jerk; In a wild confusion in a seeming chaos, Lifting, pushing, driving─but they do their work. From the mightiest lever to the tiniest pinion, All things move together for the ourpose planned; And behind the working is a mind controlling, And a force directing, and a guiding hand. So all things are working for the Lord's beloved; Some things might be hurtful if alone they Stood; Some might seem to hinder; some might draw us backward; But they work together, and they work for good, All the thwarted longings, all the stern denials, All the contradictions, hard to understand. Aand the force that holds them, speeds them and retards them, Stops and starts and guides them─is our Father's hand. ─Annie Johnson Flint.
