Paul, called to be an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God, and our brother Sosthenes,
To the church of God in Corinth, to those sanctified in Christ Jesus and called to be holy, together with all those everywhere who call on the name of our Lord Jesus Christ--their Lord and ours: 1:3 願恩惠、平安從 神我們的父並主耶穌基督歸與你們。 Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. I always thank God for you because of his grace given you in Christ Jesus. For in him you have been enriched in every way--in all your speaking and in all your knowledge-- 1:6 正如我為基督作的見證,在你們心裏得以堅固, because our testimony about Christ was confirmed in you. Therefore you do not lack any spiritual gift as you eagerly wait for our Lord Jesus Christ to be revealed. He will keep you strong to the end, so that you will be blameless on the day of our Lord Jesus Christ. God, who has called you into fellowship with his Son Jesus Christ our Lord, is faithful. 0 I appeal to you, brothers, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree with one another so that there may be no divisions among you and that you may be perfectly united in mind and thought. My brothers, some from Chloe's household have informed me that there are quarrels among you. What I mean is this: One of you says, <<I follow Paul>>; another, <<I follow Apollos>>; another, <<I follow Cephas(\f1 1:12 That is, Peter)>>; still another, <<I follow Christ.>> 1:13 基督是分開的嗎? Is Christ divided? Was Paul crucified for you? Were you baptized into(\f2 1:13 Or|i in|d; also in verse 15) the name of Paul? I am thankful that I did not baptize any of you except Crispus and Gaius, 1:15 免得有人說,你們是奉我的名受洗。 so no one can say that you were baptized into my name. (Yes, I also baptized the household of Stephanas; beyond that, I don't remember if I baptized anyone else.) 1:17 基督差遣我,原不是為施洗,乃是為傳福音,並不用智慧的言語,免得基督的十字架落了空。 For Christ did not send me to baptize, but to preach the gospel--not with words of human wisdom, lest the cross of Christ be emptied of its power. For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. 1:19 就如經上所記:我要滅絕智慧人的智慧,廢棄聰明人的聰明。 For it is written: <<I will destroy the wisdom of the wise; the intelligence of the intelligent I will frustrate.>> (\f3 1:19 Isaiah 29:14) 1:20 智慧人在哪裏? Where is the wise man? Where is the scholar? Where is the philosopher of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world? For since in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom did not know him, God was pleased through the foolishness of what was preached to save those who believe. Jews demand miraculous signs and Greeks look for wisdom, 1:23 我們卻是傳釘十字架的基督,在猶太人為絆腳石,在外邦人為愚拙; but we preach Christ crucified: a stumbling block to Jews and foolishness to Gentiles, 1:24 但在那蒙召的,無論是猶太人、希臘人,基督總為 神的能力, 神的智慧。 but to those whom God has called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. 1:25 因 神的愚拙總比人智慧, 神的軟弱總比人強壯。 For the foolishness of God is wiser than man's wisdom, and the weakness of God is stronger than man's strength. Brothers, think of what you were when you were called. Not many of you were wise by human standards; not many were influential; not many were of noble birth. But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong. He chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things--and the things that are not--to nullify the things that are, 1:29 使一切有血氣的,在 神面前一個也不能自誇。 so that no one may boast before him. It is because of him that you are in Christ Jesus, who has become for us wisdom from God--that is, our righteousness, holiness and redemption. Therefore, as it is written: <<Let him who boasts boast in the Lord.>>( \f4 1:31 Jer. 9:24)

May 25 "I endure all things for the sake of God's own people; so that they also may obtain salvation……and with it eternal glory."(2 Tim. 2:10.) (Weymouth.) IF Job could have known as he sat there in the ashes, bruishing his heart on this problem of providence─that in the trouble that had come upon him he was doing what one man may do to work out the problem for the world, he might again have taken courage. No man lives to himself. Job's life is but your life and mine written in larger text...So, then, though we may not know what trials wait on any of us, we can believe that, as the days in which Job wrestled with his dark maladies are the only days that make him worth remembrance, and but for which his name had never been written in the book of life, so the days through which we struggle, finding no way, but never losing the light, will be the most significant we are called to live ─Robert Collyer. Who does not know that our most sorrowful days have been amongst our best? When the face is wreathed in smiles and we trip lightly over meadows bespangled with spring flowers, the heart is often running to waste. The soul which is always blithe and gay misses the deepest life. It has its reward, and it is satisfied to its measure, though that measure is a very scanty one. But the heart is dwarfed; and the nature, which is capable of the hightest heights, the deepest depths, is undevelped; and life presently burns down to its socket without having known the resonance of the deepest chords of joy. "Blessed are they that mourn." Stars shine brightest in the long dark night of winter. The gentians show their fairest bloom amid almost inaccessible heights of snow and ice. God's promises seem to wait for the pressure of pain to trample out their richest juice as in a wine-press. Only those who have sorrowed know how tender is the "Man of Sorrows." ─Selected. Thou hast but little sunshine, but thy long glooms are wisely appointed thee; for perhaps a stretch of summer weather would have made thee as a parched land and barren wilderness. Thy Lord knows best, and he has the clouds and the sun at His disposal. ─Selected. "It is a gray day." "Yes, but dinna ye see the patch of blue?" ─Scotch Shoemaker.
